Cookie and Privacy Policy
We’re Jerry Foulkes and Andrea Miller, and we run North Cottage Cromer ourselves. This page explains what we know about you, why, and what we do with it. The short version: only what we need to look after your booking, and we never sell it.
Who we are: Jerry Foulkes and Andrea Miller, trading as North Cottage Cromer, Overstrand Road, Cromer NR27 0AH. We decide how your information is used, so in data protection terms we are the “controller”.
Questions or requests: email jerry@northcottagecromer.co.uk or call 07545 288625.
What we collect
- When you ask about a stay: your name, email address, phone number, the dates you want and how many adults and children are coming. This comes from our booking request form, from the booking widget, or from an email, call or WhatsApp message.
- When you book: the names and contact details we need for the booking, and a record of what you have paid. We don’t keep card details.
- If you join our newsletter: your name and email address, and whether you have stayed with us before, so that offers for returning guests reach the right people.
- If you fill in the feedback form in the house: your comments, and your email address if you choose to give it. We only add you to the newsletter if you ask us to.
- If you message us on WhatsApp: your number is saved in our phone. Ask us and we’ll delete it.
- If you book through Airbnb: Airbnb passes us the details we need to host you. Airbnb’s own privacy policy covers what it does.
Why we use it
- To answer your questions, take your booking and look after your stay. We need the information to do this.
- To keep proper business and tax records, which the law requires.
- To send you our newsletter, but only if you have signed up. To leave, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter.
- Once your stay is over, we won’t contact you again unless you have agreed to it.
- To keep the website secure and to see, in general terms, how many people visit and which pages they read.
Who else sees it
We never sell your details or give them to anyone for their own marketing. A few services handle them on our behalf, because that is how a small business works:
- Freetobook runs our booking widget, which passes your booking request to us. (Our Bookalet availability calendar only shows dates. It receives nothing about you.)
- Mailchimp sends our newsletter and holds the mailing list. Mailchimp is a US company. It stores your details in the US with the safeguards UK law requires.
- Google provides our website statistics and the map on our Contact page.
- Our website host and email provider store the messages you send us.
- HMRC may see our booking records if it asks.
How long we keep it
- Bookings: six years, because that is how long the law requires us to keep business records.
- Enquiries that don’t become a booking: we don’t keep them.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- WhatsApp contacts: until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or tell us to stop using it. Just email us. We’ll reply within a month, and it costs nothing. If you’re unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We keep them to a minimum. We don’t use advertising cookies or pop-ups that track you.
| Cookie | What it does |
|---|---|
| WordPress and Wordfence | Essential. They keep the site running and secure, and block attacks. They can’t be switched off. |
| Google Analytics | Statistics only. They count visits and show which pages are read, so we know what is useful. We can’t tell who you are from them. You can opt out with Google’s opt-out tool or by blocking cookies in your browser. |
| Embedded content | Our videos (YouTube and Vimeo), the audio guide (SoundCloud), the map (Google Maps) and the booking tools (Freetobook and Bookalet) come from other companies, which may set their own cookies when you use them. Their own policies apply. |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work, although some embedded videos and maps may not.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page.
