Cromer Pier 60s weekend 2024

Come to Award Winning Cromer!

Cromer Pier at dusk

Just as North Cottage Cromer was picking up its award for Self Catering Accommodation of the Year 2025 at the Visit Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards, we were delighted to read more awards were heading to Cromer.

Last year Cromer Pier was awarded Pier of the Year for the third time by the National Piers Society. Cromer Pier’s Pavillion Theatre hosts the longest running, continuous, end of the pier show in the world. Musical tribute acts also perform to sell-out audiences. There’s continuous public investment in the Pier, where other resorts have sadly seen their Victorian Piers fall into decline and decay. Hooray for Cromer Pier!

The 123 year old Cromer Pier is one of the great hallmarks of the town’s Victorian origins. Day-trippers and holidaymakers flooded into Cromer by train at the turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries. For those excited visitors, a walk along the pier was a must. It was a very exotic experience designed to resemble walking along the deck on a huge cruising ship, with the waves far below.

Cromer East Beach

Cromer also has an award winning beach. In fact Cromer has held a coveted Blue Flag Award since 1988! The Blue Flag is a global standard given to beach operators who make a special effort to maintain coastal water and beaches.

The Blue Flag standard is in operation between May and September. It recognises; accessibility, beach management, consistently good water quality, water safety, environmental and educational programmes.

Cromer and neighbouring Sheringham have held Blue Flags since 1988. Only Dorset’s Sandbanks and Devon’s Oddicombe exceed this record – theirs were awarded a year earlier. It’s quite an achievement for two Norfolk beaches so close together to maintain this quality mark.

Upstairs at No.1

No.1 Cromer famed for it’s fish and chips and its prime location overlooking Cromer Pier is often winning awards. This month, March 2025, it was awarded 2 AA Rosettes in recognition of the quality of food on offer. It was also a finalist at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024. Guests at North Cottage Cromer enjoy dining at Upstairs at No.1 where there is a larger menu of seafood and other dishes and some fantastic sea views if you’re lucky enough to request a window seat – but it’s best to book ahead for that!

The Bann Thai is another favourite with North Cottage Cromer guests. It offers both dine in and take out menus. It’s just been awarded a Good Food – Gold Seal Award for Culinary excellence. Upstairs at No.1 also picked up a Good Food Blue Ribbon for excellent customer service based on reviews.

The Red Lion Cromer, one of our favourite spots, has just been awarded 3 separate AA awards. A rosette for culinary excellence, a breakfast award, and a 5 AA Star Inn award. The Red Lion enjoys a fantastic sea front location, a very popular bar with a wide selection of drinks, and a large a la carte restaurant.

Cromer’s The Grove Hotel has been recognised again with an award of 2 prestigious AA rosettes. The historic hotel has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes and 4 Gold Stars for the 12th year running. Quite an achievement.

The Grove also offers a la carte dining in the main hotel and informal dining at Sundown restaurant – a giant tepee serving tapas and pizza. It’s a fun experience.

Sundown at The Grove

Wherever you eat, drink, stay or are entertained you’re guaranteed a great visit to Cromer. The vibrant town is buzzing with activity, yet retains its historic charm and traditional roots.

We’d love to welcome you to North Cottage Cromer. Our award winning house sleeps 12 guests in luxurious style. Guests love the space, large rooms, extensive well maintained gardens and above all else – the amazing location – right beside the beach.
