Cromer’s annual Carnival Week is the middle week of August. This year the dates are August 16th – 22nd. Carnival Day is on Wednesday 20th August. On Carnival Day there’s a double spectacular air show (weather permitting) as both The Red Arrows and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are taking to the skies above the Pier.
Carnival Week is a great Seaside Tradition
Carnival Week is a fantastic way to get a taste of a traditional seaside holiday. There’s loads going on and something for everyone.
There’s always plenty going on at the Carnival field with stalls and rides and spectacular shows. Last year there was a motor cycle show and some amazing horse skills demonstration!
There’s also plenty going on around Cromer Pier with the crowning of the Carnival Queen. The town comes out on parade for Carnival with highly decorated and themed floats making their way through the main streets. 20,000 people came out to watch last year, and £2,000 was raised for Cromer Hospital. There is a great deal of cheering, merriment and delight as familiar local faces appear in costume!
Free Fireworks!
There’s a firework display from the cliff-top near the Carnival field, and a great place to view is from Cromer Pier.
Carnival History
Cromer had an annual fair as long ago as 1285! In the 19th Century (1800’s) this became a fair held at Whitsun. After the Pier was built in the 20th Century the celebrations moved there with fancy dress parades and boat races. Sometimes there was even a ‘fire diver’!
In the 1950s and 60s the Carnival procession through town became popular and crowning the Carnival Queen became a fixture.
Cromer Carnival – A Great Week to holiday here!
